SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Two California-Hawaii Elks Association (CHEA) Special Citations were presented to Past Exalted Ruler Stephen B. Clazie at a Sacramento Elks Lodge No. 6 meeting on Tuesday, June 2.

The first citation was for third place in the Best Community Service & Image Brochure category in the CHEA Public Relations Division 4 Contest. Division 4 includes lodges with 701 to 1,100 members.

The brochure included copies of 23 Community Service entry stories that appeared across 15 issues of the Pocket News. Each of those stories mentioned the GreenHaven Pocket Farmers Market. Two of the 15 issues also contained an additional story about Elks 6 that was unrelated to the market. Those stories remained attached because they were part of the original page layout.
The citations were presented by Exalted Ruler Carol “Coach” Mitchell.  In presenting the Special Citations, she referred to Clazie as the Lodge’s “Story Teller.”

Clazie also received a second Special Third Place Citation for Best Event Brochure.

Sacramento Elks Lodge No. 6’s Single Best Event Brochure entry appeared in the Sept. 12, 2025, issue of the Pocket News. The story, titled “Teen Collecting Signatures for Crosswalk Safety,” appeared on pages 1 and 7. The publisher also printed the same story in the Sept. 26, 2025, issue of the Carmichael Times on page 7.

Clazie later wrote a follow-up story after Eric Norem met with City Councilmember Rick Jennings. It appeared on page 4 of the Dec. 19, 2025, issue of the Pocket News under the title “Teen Collecting Signatures Online for Crosswalk Safety.”

These stories focused on teenager Eric Norem, his petition drive for pedestrian safety, and his campaign to install a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon at a dangerous intersection.

This marks the third consecutive year that Sacramento Elks Lodge No. 6 and Clazie have received Special Public Relations Citations from the California-Hawaii Elks Association. During the previous two years, Elks 6 earned first place in both categories of the CHEA Public Relations Division 3 Contest. Division 3 includes lodges with 501 to 700 members. This past year, the Lodge experienced significant membership growth and moved up to Division 4.
