SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Spring break is supposed to be a “break.” That means not having to figure out answers to difficult questions, like how many Easter eggs can fit in one helicopter, or how fast an Easter egg would fall to earth from the air. Or the biggest questions of all: Who would drop Easter eggs from a helicopter, and why would they do it?

It all started in 2016. That means they’ve been doing it for 11 years.

The answer is River’s Edge Church at 6449 Riverside Blvd. in the Pocket neighborhood of Sacramento. This year, on March 28, they prepared 10,000 Easter eggs filled with toys and candy.

River’s Edge Children’s Pastor Heather Huffman said, “The majority of the eggs are filled by our church congregation!”

Of course, the helicopter cannot hold that many eggs. Heather does not know from what height the helicopter drops the eggs, but she said, “Only about 2,000 to 3,000 eggs are dropped from the helicopter because that’s all they can fit.”

“We scatter the rest around the large circle prior to when the helicopter comes. We also have a toddler egg hunt for children under 4 years old at this event, and some of the eggs are used for that as well,” she added.

River’s Edge usually has about 50 volunteers from the church who serve during the morning of the event to help make it a success.

Huffman was asked if they ever find Easter eggs a few months later.

“No, actually! Our volunteers do a good job cleaning up at the end of the event. Most eggs and candy are concentrated in one area,” she said.

Her final comment was, “It’s always a very fun community event! We are grateful to host these fun opportunities and love welcoming folks!”
