SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - At the west end of Florin Road, where it meets Riverside Boulevard, a large “6” dominates the building directly across the intersection. It’s a familiar sight for many, but for Vic Cima, general manager of the GreenHaven Pocket (GHP) Farmers Market, that “6” carries a deeper meaning.

“In the military, law enforcement and even among civilians, ‘I’ve got your six’ means ‘I’ve got your back,’” Cima explains. “Here at the Farmers Market, we’ve adopted that spirit of support and protection for our community and our partners.”

In that spirit, Cima recently reached out to Scott Okamoto, director of Marketing and Fund Development at the Asian Community Center (ACC), with exciting news: The GHP Farmers Market is proud to welcome ACC as a community booth participant in 2026.

“We’ve got your six,” Cima told him.

Planning for 2026

“The GHP Board of Directors is thrilled to have ACC joining us,” said GHP Event Coordinator Terry Catron. “They provide essential services for older adults and their caregivers, and we can’t wait to help share their work with the community.”

ACC Senior Services and Revere Court are hosting the Senior Resource Fair at GreenHaven Pocket Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, April 26.

Okamoto said, “Connect with local services, gather helpful resources and enjoy a vibrant morning with your community.”

“Join us at the GreenHaven Pocket Farmers Market for a Senior Resource Fair alongside the beloved Elks 6 Sunday breakfast,” Catron added.

This Senior Resource Fair is also being presented in conjunction with Revere Court.

Casey Simon, director of community relations, said “Revere Court is a memory care community.  It specializes in caring for adults who have Alzheimer’s disease and related forms of dementia...”

Revere Court also offers a “day club” allowing for respite for the home caregiver and support for families caring for  those living with dementia.

ACC offers a wide range of programs designed to promote health, wellness and independence for older adults across the Sacramento region. Many of these programs are low-cost or free, and all are culturally sensitive and tailored to the diverse community ACC serves.

Vic Cima, right, and Scott Okamoto have each other’s backs for making Greenhaven/Pocket and Land Park better neighborhoods. Cima said, “In the military, law enforcement and even among civilians, ‘I’ve got your six’ means ‘I’ve got your back.’”

A Community Connection Years in the Making

One of the key people behind this joint effort is Linda Pohl, a longtime community advocate and active member of Elks Lodge 6 for over 30 years. Cima offered his heartfelt thanks to Pohl, who has worked tirelessly to help make this collaboration possible.

“Linda’s dedication to our community is unmatched,” said Cima. “And her family’s service doesn’t stop with her.”

As it turns out, Linda’s son, Eric, is a firefighter at Station 13 at 43rd Avenue and Gloria Drive, just a stone’s throw from the market itself.

When asked about her involvement, Linda was quick to focus on the mission.

“The Asian Community Center enhances the quality of life for older adults in the Sacramento region,” Pohl said. “Their culturally responsive services are a lifeline for so many. I’m honored to help bring their work to the Farmers Market.”

Pohl also said, “Casey and Scott have both been members of the Pocket community, personally and professionally, and they care deeply about its residents and overall well-being.”

“I have witnessed Vic Cima’s five years of dedication to improving both the Greenhaven/Pocket and Land Park neighborhoods through his work with GHP,” Pohl added.

Looking Ahead

Back at the Farmers Market, the excitement continues to grow.

“For over 50 years, ACC Senior Services has been enriching the lives of older adults and their caregivers,” Cima shared. “We’re proud that they’ll be joining us at the GHP Farmers Market in 2026.”

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on select Sundays, ACC will be on site at 6446 Riverside Blvd., right in front of that big number “6.”

For Cima, it all comes down to one belief: “The value of a life is measured by the lives it touches. If we want to live purposefully, we must invest in others.”

With ACC joining the GreenHaven Pocket Farmers Market, that investment continues, one Sunday at a time.

“Senior Resource Fair is truly teamwork between ACC, Revere Court and the Elks/GreenHaven Pocket Farmers Market as a joint venture. Each member contributing in different ways to bring this event together. It all started with a simple conversation among Linda, Vic, Terry, Scott and Casey, and has taken off and evolved into being 30 senior resource vendors and 30 farmers market vendors,” Okamoto concluded.
