SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Dean Mixell was born in 1925 in Olivia, Minnesota. The Meadows at Country Place staff were all so excited to celebrate his 100th birthday on June 24.

Right after he graduated high school, Mixell served in the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC), during World War II. When he got out of the army, he attended college and graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Hamlin University.

Thereafter he owned a men’s clothing store. Mixell then met and married his beautiful wife, Marilyn, to whom he was married for 54 years.

In 1959, he and his wife and their three daughters moved to Santa Clara. Their only son was born in 1960, being the only native Californian in the family. Mixell continued to work in the clothing business, and in 1996, he and his family relocated to Sacramento. He worked for various apparel companies until he retired from Levi Strauss in 1989.

Mixell enjoyed many outdoor activities and sports, including boating with his family, coaching his son’s little league baseball teams and daughters' softball team. He also loved to golf.

After retiring, Mixell played 1,400 rounds of golf and always walked the course at Auburn Valley Country Club. He loves music and used to love to go out dancing with his wife.

Mixell was always very social and has a lot of great friends. He was a loving and devoted husband.

He has always been a wonderful father-grandpa to his two granddaughters, father-in-law and a loyal friend, who all love him along with the staff at The Meadows at Country Place.
