SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - In 2025, the Greenhaven Pocket farmers market will be held on Sundays instead of Saturdays. The Grand Opening for the 2025 season will be on Sunday, April 6. This marks the market’s fourth season.
The market’s move from Saturday to Sunday will assist local growers in providing a larger quantity of fruits and vegetables.
In past years, there was a well-kept secret about the Greenhaven Pocket farmers market, certain fruits and vegetables were in limited supply. One of the market’s most notable growers is Nuno Family Farms located in Los Banos. By moving the market to Sundays, Nuno Family Farms will be doubling the amount of fresh-picked fruits and vegetables available for sale.
Nuno Family Farms is a regular vendor at the farmers market and is known for their very sweet cantaloupes. Efron Nuno of Nuno Family Farms has explained in the past, “We don’t cut the fruit in picking, but twist it,” according to Nuno, “Cantaloupe will be very sweet when you can just twist the fruit to pick it, rather than cutting it.”
Nuno has also pointed out that, “Cantaloupe has many health benefits, including being rich in water, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that could benefit a person’s overall health and help improve certain conditions.”
Farmers market General Manager Vic Cima adds to Nuno’s pitch: “Popular with children and adults, cantaloupe can make a refreshing, healthful, and easy summer dessert, while its high water content helps prevent dehydration.”
The farmers market decided Sundays would provide families more time to visit market for fresh fruit and vegetables, and it could be beneficial for the market to coincide with the neighboring Elks Lodge No. 6’s Sunday breakfast.
The grand opening for the 2025 season will be Sunday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Elks Lodge No. 6 parking lot at 6446 Riverside Blvd.
